Its Marnie & Dean.
An extraordinary couple from Melbourne, Australia.
They are the mutli-talented designers, testers, makers and general Swiss-army knives of the bag world.
Everything you see before you has sprouted from their imagination & relationship the great outdoors, festivals, travelling and each other.
Why Canvas?
This is the Wikipedia definition of canvas.
“Canvas is an extremely durable plain-woven fabric used for making sails, tents, marquees, backpacks, and other items for which sturdiness is required.
Modern canvas is usually made of cotton or linen, although historically it was made from hemp. It differs from other heavy cotton fabrics, such as denim, in being plain weave rather than twill weave.”
But it’s really more than just another material.
We grew up in the hills of Melbourne where scouts was a weekly event and being outdoors was part of our everyday.
We watched as the modern plastics took over the outdoor industry and canvas took a back seat to bling colors and shiny buckles.
But….. I still have my first canvas backpack, soft after years in the weather, faded like it’s seen a thousand sunsets. It still breathes and moves like a best friend.
So when we started making bags for ourselves on a Singer in our lounge, we also began thinking about what had been missing from our travel gear. What did we want from our materials that plastics just can’t do.
And that’s why we make canvas bags because they are your bag, individual, breathing, alive and getting better with age and every adventure.
What’s with the orange?
It’s our brand’s signature color, it represents the Australian landscape and its just cool.
Also, if you have ever had a bag with dark lining material you know how frustrating it is to find anything inside?
Can I wash my Nomad gear?
Yes, you can and it’s easier than you think, just follow these instructions…
– Wash with mild natural detergent in cold water and soak for a couple of hours
– Avoid any heavy chemical detergents
– Rinse in cold water
– Air dry in the shade and enjoy
What happens if something breaks?

Why’s it made in Asia?
We always wanted to make bags that we could afford, after many trials and tests with local manufacturers over the last 6 years we simply couldn’t make amazing bags with all the features everybody likes and not have it costing hundreds of dollars.
So when we got an invite to meet a local team in far off central Java, we thought, why not!
Little did we know that we would be literally starting from the ground up. (eg dirt floor)
Since that first year of recycling cardboard boxes to make patterns, taking the bus ride from hell across the length of the country looking for the right canvas and spending months each year crafting every bag, we have grown into a team of Australian pattern makers, Canadian production management and Vietnamese tailors.
We are proud of who we are and what we do, blessed to be working with our families and friends and always inspired to share our adventures with everybody around the world.
